  6. Italy and Rome • Rome is the capital city in the country of Italy. • The city controlled the country. It was the center of the government.

  7. The Roman Empire • The Emperors of Rome began to conquer other countries. • Rome and its conquered lands became known as the Roman Empire. • The Roman Empire spanned three continents.
