A little bit of background info… • Libya is located in the Maghreb region of Africa, and it’s bordered by the Mediterranean sea to the North. • Libya is the fourth largest country in Africa based off of its area. • As a result of the civil warof February to October 2011 and the collapse of the Gadaffi regime which had been in power for more than 40 years, Libya is currently administrated by a caretake government, known as the National Transitional council.

Who is Gadaffi? • He was Libya’s head of state • His 42-year leadership prior to the uprising made him the fourth longest serving non-royal leader since 1900, as well as the longest-serving Arab leader ever. • After seizing power in 1969, he abolished the Libyan constitution of 1951. • He established laws based on the political ideology he had formulated, called the Third International Theory and published in The Green Book. • People really hated him so they started to revolt against him.

  6. How does the Libyan Revolution relate to the American revolution? • Although they were to completely different times periods, the revolution in Libya and the American Revolution do have some things in common.
