  4. Introduction • We feel it is important that students see how important community helpers are to a community, and the many different ways each community helper contributes.

Activities • Have students make individual mail boxes, write friendly letters, and deliver them to each other. • Have students compare the Pony Express from history and the United States postal system from today. • Have students use geometric shapes to make community helpers, such as a police officer, and then write a few sentences about their community member.

  13. Have students make a community helper collage and then write a sentence about that person. Have students match ID cards and a picture of a community helper. Have an “occupation in a bag” day where students bring in anything that fits into a brown paper bag that would describe their parents job. Activities

Activities • Students will talk about the affects of sugar on their teeth and how a dentist can fix the them. • Students will survey people to see how the community they live in has changed. • Students will use computers to keep track of items bought in classroom shopping and money made from working in their community.
