  4. The Election • Electoral votes- • Adams- 65 • Pinckney- 64 • Jefferson- 73 • Burr- 73 • Main issue- Jefferson and Burr tie means that there is no clear first and second place winners • Issue Resolved- House of Representatives decides between the top 3 candidates.

Final Results • Final results of election- • Most of Federalists controlled congress like Burr for President • Hamilton convinces House to vote for Jefferson because he hated Burr and had respect for Jefferson. • House of Representatives votes Jefferson as president with 36 votes. • First timeone political party will replace another • Led to the creation of the 12th amendment in 1804 • creates separate ballot for President and Vice President
