  4. Southern Colonies • Slavery to work the large plantations • Rice, tobacco and cotton • Few large cities

  5. Summary • All colonies were similar in lifestyle and culture • People came from England and other parts of Europe • Slavery in the South • All practiced representative government or self-government • Fiercely independent and enjoy freedoms
