  3. Aztec Gods • Huitzilopochtli- god of war and sun • Tlaloc- god of rain • Quetzalcoatl- god of learning and art

  4. Quetzalcoatl • Once the Aztec overthrew the god Quetzalcoatl, he said that he would come back to claim the Aztec empire. • When the Spanish conquistador Cortez first came to the Aztec empire, the Aztec thought he was god Quetzalcoatl. • They treated him really good and gave him gold.

  5. Huitzilopochtli • Huitzilopochtli gave the Aztec the command that they were supposed to look for the sign of an eagle eating a snake, sitting in a prickly pear cactus. • Wherever they found the sign, they would have to settle there. They took 200yrs to find the sign.

  6. Tlaloc • Tlaloc was the god of rain. • He would provide enough rain so the Aztec would have enough food.

  7. Sacrifices • The Aztec did sacrifices to the gods so everything would go fine. • To the Aztec sacrifices were essential, they believed that if they didn’t do sacrifices the gods would destroy the world.

  8. Aztec Gods • The Aztec gods didn’t look at all like humans. • Aztec gods didn’t have feelings, all they needed was blood shed from humans to keep the world going.
