  1. Rx for Foreign Policy The right medicine for a sick Canadian foreign policy Alastair Gordon Canadian Coalition for Democracies May 6, 2006 http://CanadianCoalition.com

  2. Finally, some helpful meds… The Harper government has already given CCD less to complain about: • Tamil Tigers outlawed • Voted NO on first UN Israel-bashing resolution • PM Harper’s visit to Afghanistan • Acted to strip citizenship from convicted terrorist • Cut off funding to Hamas PA • Judicial enquiry into Air-India massacre • End of infantile America-bashing – Softwood deal!

  3. What remains to be done? • Fix the broken bureaucracy • Take religious & ethnic pressure groups out of Foreign Affairs and RCMP • Normalize relations with Taiwan • Withdraw from One China Treaty • End funding of UNRWA (June 30 mandate renewal) • Just vote NO! on all anti-Israel UN resolutions • Bring more democracy to UN

  4. Where do we stand today? • No longing spooning out medicine that is killing the patient • Canada has shown global leadership, and others will follow • Leadership does not cost billions • Bureaucracy will work hard to derail ministers and push political agendas • Vigilance, guidance, persistence • Think back to last year… what a great start!
