  2. Bell Ringer – Copy on your paper • 1. When responding to any adult, you must answer by saying "Yes ma’am” or “No sir.” Just nodding your head or saying any other form of yes or no is not acceptable. • ( This is a very useful tool in dealing with adults) • 2.Make eye contact. When someone is speaking, keep your eyes on him or her all times. • (This shows confidence and respect)

  3. On the same sheet of paper- Write “Woodsong” under your Bell Ringer • Copy these notes under “Woodsong” • 1. memoir- writer tells true life stories • 2.conflict- struggle between opposing forces • 3. suspense- anxious curiosity you feel about what happens next • 4. imagery- words or phrases that appeal to your senses • 5.Author’s Purpose- • A.   5. Read pg.116 – Answer the questions in complete sentences. • 1. Examine the painting on page 117. What do you see? • 2. Reread lines 1-14. What imagery does Paulson use to depict life at the edge of the wilderness?

  6. Answers • 1. I see leaves, tree trunk, and a bear in the picture. • 2. Paulson uses skunks abound, and foxes and coyotes and wolves and weasels-all predators and we also had an eagle live over the kennel to depict (show) life at the edge of the wilderness.
