  3. Revolution • 1927: Chiang Kai-shek formed the Nationalist government of the Republic of China. • 1949- the Communists won power and set up the People’s Republic of China.

  4. A tale of Two Chinas • Taiwan and China have intertwined economics despite differences. • Taiwan has invested billions of dollars in factories on mainland China. • The rest of the world relies on Taiwan for key computer and electronic parts.

  5. A Free Mongolia • The modern country of Mongolia was born after the overthrow of China’s Qing dynasty in 1911. • After the collapse of Soviet Communism, the Mongolians adopted a democratic constitution.
