Definitions of Motivation • “Motivation is the act of stimulating someone to get a desired course of action.” ---- Michael Jucius • “Motivation means the phenomena involved in the operations of incentives and drives.” ---- James Drive • “Motivation is the process (a) of arousing or initiating behavior, (b) of sustaining an activity in progress, and (c) of channeling of activity in the given course.” ---- P.T. Young

  5. Successful motivation involves: • Getting people to do what you want them to do • When you want them to do it • The way you want them to do it • Because they want to do it

  6. For a moment, close your eyes and think • With all your limbs intact how far you can go? Are you just another person who thinks about the future……or…..Are you the person who wants to own it?

Everything begins with a thought… What you think determines who you are… Who you are determines what you do… What you do often, becomes a habit… Habits determine your lifestyle… Lifestyle determines your destiny… Your destiny determines your legacy. Motivation is a Journey, not a Destination MOTIVATION

  8. Positive and negative Motivation Sometimes a distinction is made between positive and negative motivation. Positive motivation is a response which includes enjoyment and optimism about the tasks that you are involved in. Negative motivation involves undertaking tasks because there will be undesirable outcomes, e.g.. failing a subject, if tasks are not completed.

  9. CLASS EXERCISE - 1 MOTIVATION- Describe the circumstances: • You felt totally motivated. Everything looked so easy for you. You were willing to work as hard as it took. • Why were you motivated? • What did you do to keep the motivation? • How long did it last?

  11. CLASS EXERCISE - 2 DE-MOTIVATION-Describe the circumstances: • You felt totally de-motivated. Everything looked hard. You were not willing to work as hard as it took. • Why were you de-motivated? • What happened for you to lose motivation? • How long did it last?

  12. What is 'loss of motivation'? You might experience loss of motivation as a reluctance to undertake an assignment or project, or attend a class. You may be thinking about withdrawing from a subject, or taking leave from office etc. You may experience loss of motivation as if it were a lost object or a lost friend. You might feel: • anxious • confused • frustrated • angry • uncertain • depressed

  14. Nick Vujicic • Nick was born on 4th December 1982 without limbs and doctors had no medical explanation for this birth

  15. Australia didn’t allow Nick to be integrated into a main-stream school because of his disability, but his mom fought and changed the law of the country. • He became one of the first students to be integrated into a main stream school.

  16. Nick was rejected and bullied because of his disability. And he had to develop attitudes to overcome all the challenges he faced.

  17. Since he couldn’t change the way he was or blame someone else for his disability, he became frustrated • And everything became a challenge for him

  18. Nick is now 26 years old and has completed a Bachelor of Commerce degree majoring in Financial Planning and Accounting.

  19. Nick is also a motivational speaker and loves to go and share his life story with others.

  20. Nic Says: Face your challenges • Never be scared to face tomorrow • Love your self • Don’t limit your self • Never, Ever Give Up! • Spead happiness and cheer!
