Exploration Title Page On pages 27 and 28 of your notebook, create a title page for our next unit. Remember, a title page is a BRAINSTORM of everything you already know about exploration. Make sure you title page has: • A title • At least 5 pictures or symbols
Scene 1: The People of the village throw the orphan Nuliajuk into the sea Characters: Nuliajuk 3 men 2 women 3 boys 1 girl • The eskimos prepare to leave for new hunting grounds. • The people are reluctant to take her, but Nuliajuk jumps on the raft. • Nuliajuk is thrown into the sea. She tries to get on the raft, but her fingers are cut off. • The fingers become seals, and Nuliajuk sinks to the bottom of the sea.
Scene 2: The orphan becomes a powerful spirit Characters: Nuliajuk KatuanInua, Ruler of Passage Black Dog Seals and caribou • Nuliajuk turns into a spirit, ruler of beasts. • Katuan and Black Dog send the animals out to be hunted by man.
Scene 3: Now men live in fear of Nuliajuk Characters: Nuliajuk KatuanIuna Black Dog Seals and Caribou Netsilik Family • Someone in the family breaks taboo during caribou hunting season. • KatuanInua reports the broken taboo to Nuliajuk, who summons the animals. • Weeks have passed and the family can’t find caribou. When the guilty person realizes what he has done and admits breaking the taboo, the game return.
