  2. Be in your home groupsbooks open to page 172 • Review your notes and discussions from the last viewing of “Scissorhands” for 4 minutes • We will watch scene 13-19 today.

  3. After Viewing… • Discuss the questions on page 172 with your home group. • Come to a group consensus for each answer • Is Edward behaving any differently now than he did before? What is different about the town’s treatment of him? • What is the effect of the scene with Kim dancing in the ice crystal? How have her feelings about Edward changed? Why? • How has Edward tried to fit in? Why has he failed? What does the “ethics lesson” reveal about Edward?

Analysis of Key Scene • Divide up the cinematic techniques at the bottom of 172 amongst your group • You will focus on your one cinematic technique in the key scene about to be shown again • Take notes of interesting or effective examples of your technique • Think about the low-key lighting and backlighting as well as the use of long-shots of Edward from the point of view of the police. • Now discuss with your group your findings. • Make predictions about the story’s outcome as a group

Analytical Statements • Now each of you will create an analytical statement with textual support and reflective commentary about one of the cinematic elements in today’s showing. • Today we will work on adding a sentence of closure. • Define the following Sentence of Closure: Explanation of Interpretations. (Why is your analysis important?!)

Sentence of Closure • Your sentence of closure will come after your reflective commentary and your example of the purpose of the technique • Think of your statement like a mathematical equation Cinematic Element + Purpose + Evidence + Commentary = Sentence of Closure • Your sentence of closure shows why your analysis is important and brings closure to the subject. • Sentence of Closure = Why we care?
