Wie steigst du von den Bergen sacht, How you climb from the mountains gently, Die Lüfte alle schlafen; The breezes all sleep; Ein Schiffer nur noch, wandermüd, A boatman only, tired of wandering, Singt übers Meer sein Abendlied Sings across the sea his evening song Zu Gottes Lob im Hafen. To praise god in the harbor.

Die Jahre wie die Wolken gehn The years go by like the clouds Und lassen mich hier einsam stehn, And leave me standing hier alone, Die Welt hat mich vergessen; The world has forgotten me; Da tratst du wunderbar zu mir, Then you step wonderfully up to me, Wenn ich beim Waldesrauschen hier When I here listening to the forest Gedankenvoll gesessen.
