Guy Fawkes Night celebrates the failure of a plot to kill the King of England in 1605.
  • A group of conspirators plotted to blow up the House of Parliament, with King James the First inside.
slide4
Guy Fawkes and others stored gunpowder in a cellar below the House of Parliament.
  • The conspirators were discovered and arrested before they could explode the gunpowder.

After the plot failed, the people of London lit bonfires to celebrate the King’s deliverance.
  • The tradition has continued every year.

Remember, remember the fifth of November,

The gunpowder treason and plot,

I know of no reason

Why the gunpowder treason

Should ever be forgot.
