TOK Patterns and processes can be examined at different time scales. The important thing is to choose the most appropriate time scale for your analysis. The concept of time lag is important in various types of geographical analysis. For example in this chapter the time lag between fertility falling to population replacement level in a country and the total population actually beginning to decline is a significant factor in population change.
TOK A model is a simplification of reality. Concentrating only on major characteristics and omitting the detail, it made understanding easier at the start of the learning process.

Activity #1 • With the help of Figure 1 and Table 1, briefly describe the growth of human population since 1750. • Produce a brief bullet point summary (8-10) of Table 2. • Look at the Figure 2. Describe the differences in population growth and projected growth in developed and developing countries between 1950 and 2050.
