  1. Warm up • State the domain and range for: • If f(x) = x3 – 2x +5 find f(-2)

  2. Lesson 5 & 6Trigonometric Functions: Sine & Cosine Objective: To use the trig functions sine & cosine to find a missing dimension.

  3. Sine • Sine can be used on any angle • For now, we will look just at the angles between 0o and 90o. (Those found in a right triangle)

  4. hypotenuse hypotenuse hypotenuse opposite opposite adjacent adjacent

  5. Find the sine and cosine of angle A. 10.8 9 A 6

  6. Sin θ = Cos θ = β 5 3 α A 4 C

  7. Relationship between Sine and Cosine • If the bottom angle is x, the other angle is 90-x. The sin of x is the same as the cos of 90-x. H O x A C

  8. Relationship between Sine and Cosine Start with the Pythagorean Theorem: Divide both sides by H2 H O x A C

  9. Relationship between Sine and Cosine

  10. Example • Find the cosx given sin(x) =
