  1. China WPAN mmWave Liaison w/ 802.11 Authors: Date: 2010-07-15 Eldad Perahia, Intel Corporation

  2. CWPAN mm-Wave project group on “Gigabit Wireless Network in mm-Wave bands” was launched in March 2010 Chinese Standards Organization Overview of China WPAN (CWPAN) Eldad Perahia, Intel Corporation

  3. North America Europe Australia Korea Japan China 56 57 58 59 60 61 62 63 64 65 66 Unlicensed Spectrum (in GHz) China mm-Wave Standard • In Oct. 2006, Chinese Authority (SRRC) released 59-64GHz spectrum band. • In 2009, CESI invited CWPAN to develop the national mm-Wave standard. • The bandwidth (5GHz) corresponds to two bands with 2.16GHz bandwidth according to the band plan adopted in IEEE 802.11ad. 4. Current Status of China mm-Wave Standard • Issues of “Gigabit Wireless Network in mm-Wave bands” in China • Exporting Issues: Test equipment in the range of 60GHz (above 50GHz) to be exported to China is under pending • It implies that products compliant to IEEE 802.11ad may not be manufactured or sold on China market • Frequency Band Issues: It is being under consideration in China WPAN mm-Wave project group to use the mm-Wave band from 42GHz to 50GHz as well • Discussion with Chinese Authority (SRRC) is ongoing • Performance Issues: Product compliant to IEEE 802.11ad may not be able to support enough number of networks simultaneously (less than 3 networks) in China Market • Discussion with SRRC to request further opening spectrum from 56GHz to 58GHz or 64GHz to 66GHz may be needed Eldad Perahia, Intel Corporation

  5. Rationale for Liaison • Open up dialog between IEEE 802.11 60GHz and Chinese mmWave standards development efforts • Strive for commonality between standards • Mutual assistance in addressing regulatory bodies • Encourage companies and individuals to attend mutual meetings and actives (IEEE and CWPAN). Eldad Perahia, Intel Corporation

  6. Liaison Request • Move: • Request WG chair to establish liaison with China WPAN standards organization • Nominate Dr. Xiaoming Peng Move/Second: Eric/Assaf y/n/a: 39/0/4 Dr. Xiaoming Peng, is Chair of CWPAN “Gigabit Wireless Network in mm-Wave bands” STD task group. Dr. Liang Li, is a vice chair of CWPAN working group. Eldad Perahia, Intel Corporation
