  4. The Civilized Tribes • Cherokee Nation living in GA had settled into a western way of living • Had built schools, post offices, town halls • Sued Federal Government over Indian Removal Act

  5. Worcester v. Georgia (1832) • Cherokee refuse to give up land • Treaty from 1790s • Sued state government • Supreme Court rules in favor of Cherokee
