  2. How can you find your location? • Absolute location: exact spot on the planet where something resides • Latitude and longitude • Street address

Latitude and Longitude • Latitude: Imaginary lines that cross the surface of the Earth parallelto the Equator, measuring how far north or south of the Equator a place is located. • Longitude: Imaginary lines that cross the surface of the Earth, running from north to south, measuring how far east or west of the prime meridian a place is located. • How can you remember which is which??? • Latitude is … “FLAT across” • Longitude is … “LONG down”

  4. Relatively Speaking … • What if you really don’t feel like determining your longitude and latitude? • Relative location: A location of a place in relation to another place (i.e. south or downhill). • Can be described in terms of landmarks, time, direction, or distance from another place
