  1. Warm Up • Explain why a shirt appears blue? • You are using a shaving mirror to take off the perverted moustache that you’ve tried to grow to attain social status. While you are close to the mirror, your face is larger (oh the horror) to allow for better accuracy in shaving. Explain why with the use of a ray diagram.

  2. Challenge • A telescope to see stars looks like the following. Can you explain how an image would arrive in a person’s eye using a ray diagram?

  3. Convex Mirrors • Curves outward • AKA Diverging Mirror

  4. Terminology Vertex Centre of Curvature (C) P.A. Virtual Focus (F’)

  5. Rules of Convex Lenses Lab • Outline a convex mirror on a piece of paper • Shine a beam of light until it reflects back onto itself. Copy and label as P.A. • Find F’ by shining 4 beams of light at convex mirror. Extend the reflected rays behind the mirror to where they converge. Label as F’. • Double the distance F’ and label as C. • Shine a beam of light at C, copy the light and reflected path. • Shine a beam of light a F’, copy the light and reflected path. • Shine a beam of light parallel to PA, copy the light and reflected path.

  6. Analysis: • What happens when you shine a light ray through the virtual focus (F’)? • What happens when you shine a light ray parallel to the principle axis (PA)? • What happens when you shine a light ray through the centre of curvature (C)? • What happens when you shine a light ray at the vertex (V)?

  7. Finding an image • The rules of light abide by the same rules of convex mirrors • There is only one case & only 1 SALT:

  8. Convex Mirror Applications Security Mirrors Parking Garage Mirrors Passenger Mirrors - all show a smaller image but allow more to be seen CAUTION! Objects are closer than they appear!

  9. Putting it all together worksheet.Finish Worksheet from Friday??Needs to be handed in. Quiz tomorrow!!!!Plane, Concave and Convex mirrors
