  1. Warm Up In your Social Studies Notebook, answer the following questions on a new page: • When looking at an advertisement/commercial in a magazine or on TV, what stands out the most to you/what makes you want to buy that product? List at least 3 things. • What might deter, or discourage, you to not want to purchase an item? You might have experienced this with some of the presenters in class.

  2. Compare and Contrast • Compare – How are things similar? • Contrast – How are they different? Examples - Compare and Contrast the difference between: • Texting vs. Calling • Buying a puppy vs. buying an older dog • Football vs. Hockey • Coke vs. Pepsi • Xbox vs. Playstation

  3. Compare, Contrast and Argue • Compare and contrast the two advertisements in class. List as many similarities and differences as you can in a Venn Diagram. • Below your diagram, write a short explanation arguing which advertisement was better and WHY. Be sure to use specific examples from both advertisements.

  4. Debate • Now that we are all done writing our argument, we are going to debate on which ad was better and why. • Each person needs to participate in the conversation in order to receive participation points today.

  5. Exit Slip Answer the following questions below your argumentative response about the two advertisements in complete sentences. • Why do you think some companies don’t advertise their products? • Why do big companies, despite the popularity of their product, still make ads and commercials for their product?
