  2. Newspaper Articles and Editorial • Directions: You will be writing 3 newspaper articles and 1 editorial about events leading up to, during and after the Crusades. You will be assigned one of the following cities: Constantinople, Jerusalem, or London. Each perspective is very different from one another in regards to the Crusades. The 3 newspaper articles should be 2-3 paragraph summary each about a specific event during the crusades and an illustration to go with each. The editorial is an opinionated article influenced by someone living in that region (Letter to the Editor) • Due Date: Friday May 9th

  3. Constantinople (Part of the Byzantine Empire) • 1095-1291 C.E. • Perspective: On the side with the Crusaders (1095-1201) On their own (1201-1291) Personally attacked by the Crusaders • At the Beginning: Called on Pope Urban II to unite against the Turkish Muslims • Orthodox Christians

Jerusalem (Holy Land-Middle East) • 1095-1291 C.E. • Perspective: Beginning of the Crusades in the hands of the Turkish Muslims • (1099-1187 C.E.) in the hands of the Crusaders • (1187-1291 C.E.) in control of the Turkish Muslims • Saladin (brilliant military leader) • Site of the Holy Land War (constant warfare)

  5. London (England) • 1095-1291 C.E. • Perspective: On the side of the Crusaders the whole time • Pope Urban II and King Richard I (England) • In favor of entering the Holy Lands • Christians (Peasants and Knights recruited to make the journey to fight in the Crusades)
