  5. I.2 HEIs: ITSpecialties and Programs • Computer science and technology • Software engineering • Information and computing science • Information security • Automation • Communication engineering • Integrated circuit design and integrative system • Microelectronics • Light information science and technology ……More than 25 types

  6. 1.2 IT Specialties and Programs spots 11280 information specialization spots in 2007: (1/8)

  7. Expel: Computer science and technology • Decrease?

  8. I.3 HEIs: IT Courses • Up to 2007, 2467 National Excellent Courses have been selected (including 256 IT courses) by MOE. • The click number surpassed 200,000,000 of website of national excellent courses and the resource shared system. • Many provinces and universities have established the excellent courses construction and the resource-shared websites • To share recourses, to open courseware

  9. I.3 HEIs: IT teaching materials • MOE organized 1200 kinds of national-level planned teaching materials in the tenth five year (newly organized and revised) • National Informationization Expert Inquiry board organized compiling a series of teaching materials on IT and information society. • Introduce the overseas outstanding computer teaching material vigorously ( 200 kinds of translation)

  10. I.4 Training system: IT Social training • About 200,000 training organization and 250,000 specialties engaged in the training work. 1,800,000 people receiving each kind of computer training • 2,000,000 students participate in computer level test by The Ministry of Education Test Center Organization's every year • The transnational-enterprise certificate test (such as the Microsoft expertise authentication, SCO qualification authentication, CISCO qualification authentication); The domestic-enterprise training authentication (such as the Beida Qingniao, Qinghua Wan Bo, Dalian Hua Xin and so on) • Increase?

  11. II. The problems and challenges • Fund investment is insufficient. • The teachers’ structure is unreasonable. • There is a big distance between the talent's training localization of target and the actual industrial demand. • The students’ practical ability and innovation ability is insufficient, and the international compettivity is not strong. • Informationization education ought to be further popular.

  12. II. 1 Quantity vs. quality • Fund investment is insufficient. • The teachers’ structure is unreasonable.

  13. Students:1998-2007 6520:1080=6; 27000:8000=3.4

  14. Faculty: 1998-2007 116.8:40.7=2.9

  15. II.2 IT field: Scarce talents • Quality: The students’ practical ability and innovation ability is insufficient, and the international compettivity is not strong. • There is a big distance between the higher education institutions and the actual industrial demand. • In 2007,Six ministries including MOE had issued jointly "Some propositions about Further Strengthening the scarce talents in the key domain" that IT field including software engineering, IC, information security, animation will be taken as the key support fields.

  16. III. The reform of IT Education 1. The pilot software engineering schools 2. Talents’ training bases 3. The Teaching quality project 4. Construct the lifelong Informationization education system

  17. III.1 Pilot software engineering schools • 37 national pilot software engineering schools to have been established since 2002 • New mechanism: 3 * 1/3 • To cooperation with industry • To be internationalization • Learning by doing

  18. To enable universities to develop, optimize and share new curricula based on advanced technologies with support from Intel. Including: MOE-Intel Model Curriculum Program Donate equipment to set up joint labs & Tech support Curriculum workshops /Online forums Model Couresware Sharing: (http://softwarecollege.intel.com/university/) Textbook Development/Publish Support Technology areas: Multi-Core Computer Arch Software technologies-- compiler, Linux, EFI, Virtualization… Embedded system packaging, HVM, VLSI design, microelectronics, Wireless, network communication Tech Entrepreneurship MOE-Intel Curriculum Programs

  19. MOE-Intel Student Programs • To promote advancement of technology and support talents cultivation by various of attractive programs like fellowship, internship, kinds of student competitions, campus lectures etc. • Including: • Student contests • Intel Cup Embedded Electronic Design Contest (2002, 2004, 2006, 2008) • Intel Cup Design Innovation Contest (2005, 2006, 2007, 2008) • Intel PhD Best Paper contest • Entrepreneurship contests (IBTEC) and Intel-Tsinghua Biz-Plan contest. • Intel Multi-core programming contest • Technical lectures • Fellowship • Intel_MOE Internship Base • Mentorship: • Intel Joint Undergraduate Class (SJTU) • Student clubs

  20. Intel brings cutting edge technology expertise to faculties via workshops, academic forums, visiting scholars etc that not only encourages faculties to innovate in their curriculum development and research projects, but also helps move technology out of classrooms and into local economies. Including: Academic forum Intel China Embedded Academic forum Intel China Multi-core academic Forum Technology Entrepreneurship curriculum workshop Intel Asia Academic Forum Intel WW Embedded & Communications Education Summit Faculty workshops Multi-core curriculum workshops Intel Linux Kernel faculty workshops Intel UEFI faculty workshop HVM workshop Intel_MOE vocational school training workshop Visiting Scholar MOE-Intel: Faculty Program

  21. Strengthen cooperation and exchange with overseas universities and enterprises • To establish sustainable cooperation with the overseas universities • To Implement the bilingual courses • Introduce high-level overseas teachers • Establish the overseas internship bases

  22. III.2 Talents’ training bases • 20 talents’ training bases of integrated circuit to have been established since 2004: MOE authorized 20 universities to establish national-level Integrated circuit training bases, the enrolled students increased from 6887 in 2003 to 17463 in 2006 • 40 national LINUX training center to have been established • To have set up specialties like digital media and animation design, information service, E-government, electronic commerce, digitized manufacture and so on
