  3. 6 Year Olds….. Physical development…. • Body becomes more slender with longer arms and legs; • Prefers running over walking Cognitive development…. • Has improved memory • Has better understand of the concept of time Emotional and social development… • May have nightmares • Learns to share and take turns

  4. 7 Year Olds….. Physical development…. • May look lanky due to thin body and long arms and legs • Develops improved sense of balance and timing Cognitive development…. • Has longer attention span • Likes to help teachers Emotional and social development • May seem withdrawn and moody • Like to spend time alone or in the background

  5. 8 Year Olds…. Cognitive developments…. • Accepts ideas of rules and knows harm might result if rules are not followed. • Understands concept of time Physical development…. • Able to handle simple tools • Enjoys sports Emotional and social development…. • Wants to and act like peers • Enjoys group activities in organization and in own secret clubs.

Cognitive development…. • Is able to detect problems in daily situations and work out solutions • Grasps math concepts and applies them to daily activities Emotional and social development…. • Has improved social skills • May show more tact, especially with friends Physical development… • Girls may experience growth spurt • Become very conscious of overall appearance

  9. 12 Year Olds…. Cognitive development… • May enjoy lengthy conversations with teachers • May allow peer relationships to affect schoolwork Emotional and social development …. • Is less self centered • May express great enthusiasm Physical development…. • Likes to test strength and daring • Boys may grow little in height
