  1. French Renaissance 1600’s AD Great dramas and famous comedies that were the forerunners of Saturday Night Live.

  2. Theater for the Upper Classes Audiences were made of the upper classes. Beautiful theaters and lavish scenery and costumes. Plays mocked the audiences who watched them – often without the audience realizing it.

  3. Comédie FranÇaise The State run theater that is still in existence today in Paris.

  4. Commedia influences in French Theater A painting illustrating visibly Commedia characters in performance at the Comedie Francaise.

  5. Moliere: a playwright ( he is important like Shakespeare) The king of Satire Born Jean Baptiste Poquelin but changed his name to save his family’s honor when he decided to follow his love of Commedia and become a playwright/actor.
