Exploring the Kingdoms

monera kingdom
Monera Kingdom
  • Single-celled organisms that do not have a nucleus.
    • Members of this kingdom are bacteria
      • There are more bacteria than any other type of organism.
protista kingdom
Protista Kingdom
  • Includes single-celled and some multi-celled organisms with a nucleus.
    • Amoeba, and giant sea kelp (an algae) belong to this kingdom.
fungi kingdom
Fungi Kingdom
  • Fungi are a group of multi-cellular, non-motile (do not move) organisms.
    • The type of organisms include molds, yeasts, mildews, and mushrooms.
    • Fungi derive their nutrients by absorption from dead and decaying organic materials.
plantae kingdom
Plantae Kingdom
  • Includes multi-cellular, and non-motile (do not move) living things.
  • The type of organisms included in this kingdom are mosses, ferns, flowering and non-flowering plants.
  • Plants make their own food through photosynthesis.
  • Two phyla of plants:
    • Vascular
      • Have roots
      • Grow their seeds inside a flower or fruit.
      • Includes most trees, shrubs, vines, flowers, fruits, vegetables, and legumes.
    • Non-Vascular
      • Are found growing on the ground, on rocks, and on other plants.
      • Have no true roots or leaves
animalia kingdom
Animalia Kingdom
  • A group of multi-cellular and motile living things.
  • They cannot synthesize food and receive nutrition is by ingesting food.
  • Members are broken into two phyla:
    • Vertebrates
      • Have a backbone
    • Invertebrates
      • Do not have a backbone
