  3. Ways the President Influences Public Policy • Proposing legislation in an annual speech to Congress (State of the Union Address) • Appealing directly to the people • Approving or vetoing legislation • Appointing officials who carry out the laws

  4. 25th Amendment • Makes provisions regarding presidential succession – if the president dies, the line of succession is as follows: • Vice President • Speaker of the House • President Pro Tempore
