  3. What is Science? Science – system of knowledge and the methods you use to find that knowledge.

  4. How Important is Science? Things historical scientists believed: • California is an island. • Maggots come from rotting meat. • The moon is made of cheese. • The sun orbits the Earth. • There was an elixir of life. • Take blood away from sick people. • The world was flat.

  5. Why Do Science? #1) Science from Curiosity • Science begins with curiosity and often ends with (failure, discovery). #2) Science and Technology • Technology – use of knowledge to solve practical problems. • Technology and science (rely, do not rely) on each other.

  6. Branches of Science – pg. 4 • Natural Science is divided into… • Chemistry – study of composition. • Physics – study of matter, energy, forces, and motion. • Geology – study of Earth’s rocks. • Astronomy – study of space • Biology – study of life.
