Physiotherapy. • Branch of Medical Science • Drugless • Treatment By Exercises and Electrical Equipments • All Treatment Methodology is Scientific and Research Proven • Based on Physiological Response of Body. • Lots of Conditions : Physiotherapy is Essential. • Approach is not based on beliefs but each and every step of treatment is having strong clinical evidence.
Why Physiotherapy : • Exercise and physical agents like Heat, Cold, Therapeutic Current changes our body physiology. • Muscles, Bone and even Nervous system respond for exercises and Physical agent • Muscular Weakness ( Cause : less use, aging, neurological deficit, Etc) can be treated by physiotherapy. • Bone : Mineralization exercises plays vital role • Nervous system : alertness, co ordination re-education everything require exercises.
How Physiotherapist Treat. • Specific therapeutic Exercises • Physical Agents : Heat, cold, therapeutic currents and waves. • Special Manoeuvre that facilitate healing, re-education, facilitating movements. • Prevention of Stress and injury.
Exercises • Common Statement : “ we are doing Regular exercises” • But whether these exercises are purposeful and as per requirement . Answer “ Dont Know” • Purpose of Exercise should be specific. • For example : Endurance, Strength, of specific region. • If Knee pain than start walking : Bad Idea. • If Back Pain : start Yoga : Not always good. • Physiotherapist are qualified for the deepest knowledge of all exercises, when and How.
Physical Agents • Heat : for pain, Inflammation, Swelling, increase in local circulation. • Cold is better than heat, It is helpful in acute injury but also for chronic pain, and lots of Neuromusculoskeletal problems. • Therapeutic Current : TENS, Muscle Stimulator, Etc • Therapeutic Waves. : ultrasound for soft tissue healing.
Special Techniques • Mobilization : for joint stiffness, lack of range of motion. Like frozen shoulder etc. • Manipulations for various soft tissue and joint ailments. • Facilitation of sensory inputs : Proprioception, and other sensation so to get desired motor outputs. • Coordination and training of activities of daily living. • Awareness of posture and correction of problems originated due to faulty postures.
PAIN • Whether it is good or bad. • There are lots of causes and among those following causes can be treated by physiotherapist. • 1. Muscular weakness. • 2. Local Spasm • 3. Nerve pain due to compression or irritation of nerve. • Do not Kill the pain find the cause of pain and treat it.

Limitations • Do we have medicine to treat all the medical problems. • Do we have surgical procedure to guarantee the treatment of all medical conditions. • So how can we expect Physiotherapist to treat all the pains and muscular weakness. • Yes there is limitation of every treatments. • Its a duty of Physiotherapist to finalize the percentage of prognosis. ( E.g. OA, Back Pain. )
