  3. Thematic Essay • Theme: Conflict and Change Differences among groups have often led to conflict. The religiousdifferences, succession of a new ruler, conquering of a new area, disease, and/or ethnocentrism has often led to conflict. Political, social, economic, religious and cultural changes have occurred as a result of conflict. •  Task: Identify two political, social, economic, and/or cultural conflicts and for each: • Discuss the historical circumstances that led to the conflict • Analyze the effect of this conflict on two groups involved You may use any examples from your study of global history and geography in which conflict led to significant changes. Some suggestions you might wish to consider include the conflict between Christians and Muslims in the Holy land during the Crusades, the Spanish Conquistadors colonization of the Americas during the Age of Exploration, the persecutions of Christians during the Roman Empire, the treatment of Jews during the Egyptian civilization and Spanish Inquisition. * Suggested, preferred examples are in bold
