  1. Audience feedback EVALUATION Q3

  2. Initial Idea • When I declared my intention to make a comedy and a spy-spoof, the target audience (younger people) were generally enthusiastic about the idea, based on the response from my class. • The teachers were sceptic at first, questioning my ability to reproduce the glitz and glamour of a secret agent. • The teachers comments on my blog told me I needed to up the scale of my planned trailer, so I planned to add another scene including a vehicle of some sort, I initially wanted to include an Aston Martin, filmed from a car showroom in Cheltenham, but this proved to be impossible due to the owners reluctance to let this happen.

  3. The first edit My first edit was 11 seconds long, and consisted of my first session of filming in my bathroom. You can watch my first edit here Response to the first edit was generally positive, with approving comments from my classmates, my teacher regarded it as positive, with more room for improvement with more content. My next session of filming followed quite quickly after this so I didn’t create a poll or survey to gain some more intricate feedback to develop my trailer, in retrospect I should have done this to tailor my next edit towards my target audience more. However, with my first edit I began to expand my feedback circle more, asking my parents and extended family members rather than just my in school audience. They were positive also, but I wasn’t surprised as they were unlikely to give any criticism, even if the first edit had been of a poor standard.

  4. The Second edit • My second edit was 38 seconds long and included scenes which I cut for the final piece because I was unhappy with their quality and their place and role in the trailer. You can watch the second edit here. • As this was my longest video it garnered the most blog comments from my audience. My teacher liked the editing of the soundtrack and the varied shot types, whilst another teacher suggested I improve the titles within the trailer, which I achieved for the next edit. • As I mentioned above I was sceptical of the majority of the new shots that I did, especially the scene where he slips on a skateboard, and along with the lighting and the blue plastic gun it looked tacky and amateur, something I was determined to avoid when I first set out. • I learned from my target audience (my class and friends) that the second edit didn’t have a flow, having too many interruptions and not enough pace to it, so in my next edit I focused on getting the pace of the trailer right, which meant cutting out shots.

  5. The 3rd Edit and the Final Edit • The third edit was where I cut the footage down to what the trailer ended up as. You can watch the third edit here. • The final edit was largely similar, just evened out the audio. • I conducted a poll to find out whether the audience agreed with me and the new, shorter version was better than the older, longer one. I asked my target audience to vote on the poll, both verbally and through Facebook, and although I only received 6 votes, less than what I expected and hoped for, but it succeeded in telling me that they agreed with me and it was the right thing to do to cut out shots.

  6. The Film Poster I created two posters, with contrasting backgrounds, and differing ambience and mood to the posters, I asked my target audience, using a poll, which one they preferred. I was pleased that a lot more people voted on this poll than on the last one, and although the blue one was preferred narrowly, it showed that both appealed to my target audience. I went with the blue version in the end, because of the mood and the fact myself and the narrow majority of my target audience preferred it to the fiery one.
