  1. What have you learned from the audience feedback? Question 3

  2. Why use audience feedback? Audience feedback is a great way of getting critic form the audience and actually tells you what you can do to improve whatever it is your doing. There are many methods to get audience feedback such as questionnaires, interviews, surveys and focus groups.

  3. As a group we decided to do a questionnaire. we chose a questionnaire as it’s a quicker way of getting information as apposed to interviews where you have to do say a 5 minute interview to 5 people. You can also get more honesty with questionnaires as the person who’s answering it would feel more comfortable to answer the questions anonymously unlike an interview where your talking to the film maker and you just want to be nice to make the film maker feel happy about the film he made.

  4. We gave out a questionnaires to our peers in the class, we did this as they have experience in film’s as they take media studies as well. W aslso did this so that we could get more professional information than if we were to ask random people off the street. It was also easier as we had our trailer on the computer so they can easily gather round and answer the questions.

  5. The questions used in our questionnaires. Before writing these questions we needed to think which questions could benefit us the most before we finish it. The main question we wanted to know was question 3. We wanted an answer for this question as we were going for a neo noir style of film and we were thinking we might of gone off the line slightly so that was a very important question which only the audience can know. We also had many problems picking the music for our film. In the end we came up with a fast pace style of music and we were slightly unsure if it would work so question for was a very important question that needed answering. • 1) Can you understand the narrative from the trailer? If so what do you think you understand? • 2) What do you think needs to be changed or included to portray the narrative more in the trailer? • 3) Does it look like a film noir? If not what is wrong? And how can it be changed? • 4) Does the music work well with the theme of the trailer? • 5) What impression do the characters give you? How does the trailer show them? • 6) Do you recognized the roles of the characters, for example do you recognize who the hero is and what situation it regards? • 7) Do you think the trailer needs voiceover? If so how do you think it will work and how should we do it?

  6. Question 1 feedback • Question One Feedback: • Response one: Yes, that a detective is solving a mystery. • Response two: Not really-detective solving crimes? • Response 3: Yes, understandable, a classical Noir cop story. Here were a few answers for our question 1. Overall I’m pretty happy with the critic the audience gave us; the narrative was fairly easy to understand. The answers did seem a bit vague but baring in mind we were making a trailer I would say we gave off just enough information to have an idea of what the narrative is about.

  7. Question 2 feedback. • Question two Feedback: • Response one: The dialogue needs to be changed. • Response two: Clearer dialogue. • Response 3: Perhaps more audible dialogue. For question 2 we got very constructive feedback. We asked what could be changed to the trailer and the maturity of people said “more dialogue” or more clear dialogue. We addressed these critics by including more voice over to give more of a clearer narrative of the trailer.

  8. Question 3 feedback. • Question three Feedback: • Response one: Yes it does, however it could use less colour. • Response two: Yes-colour needs to be take out though • Response 3: Yes looks exactly like Film Noir. For this question the audience agreed that it does look like a film noir, however they said a lot about the use of colour and that it needs to have less colour in it. However, we were aiming to go for more of a modern feel so we purposely wanted to include some colour in our trailer and there for we didn’t feel there was any need to change anything.

  9. Question 4 feedback • Question four feedback: • Response one: yes, • Response two: yes, • Response three: yes, very noir like Like I said with question 4 we were unsure if our music went well with our trailer so our audiences opinions were vital for us to know. The maturity of the audience said yes and that it was very noir. We were very happy to hear this as we now know that the music works well and that it also sets a noir style with our trailer.

  10. Question 5 feedback. • Question five feedback: • Response one: Very deep characters who develop with the narrative. • Response two: Very deep and serious. • Response three: Angry cops? For a trailer we didn’t really want to give too much away about our characters apart from our protagonist. Looking through some of the audiences answers they felt that we gave off a noir style by not giving the characters much to say, we agree with his as we purposely wanted to go for a mystery noir style and we think it worked.

  11. Question 6 feedback. Like question 5 we wanted to go for the whole mystery style and didn’t really want our audience to know much about any of the characters. The audience seemed to agree with us when we asked them do you recognise any of the characters roles saying things around the lines of you can tell who the bad guy and the hero is but not much more and they seem to think it works well with the whole noir style. • Question six feedback: • Response one: Yes it is clear • Response two: yes, • Response three: Not really, recognisable hero, yet this adds to mystery of ‘Film Noir’.

  12. Question 7 feedback. • Question seven feedback: • Response one: Yes, to give a slight narrative advantage. • Response two: Maybe an occasional dialogue to explain the narrative a bit more. • Response three: Yes, maybe a V.O. would work. We were still unsure if our trailer needed a voice over or not, like I said we didn’t really want to give much information about the film to the audience and we felt maybe using a voice over could jeopardise that. We asked the audience for their opinions as they would be the people who would be considering to go to see the film. The maturity of the audience said that the film would need some kind of dialogue to at least explain something about the film. We were happy to hear this as it was incredibly practical for us and set us in the right direction.

  13. Web 2.0 Web 2.0 allows users to share information together and this includes the media. Film makers use Facebook and Youtube to share to the audience to make them fully aware of their film and to gain their interest. As filmakers ourselves we needed to share our film to the audience. We decided to put our film up on Youtube as it’s a trailer and Youtube is the most popular video sharing site in the world. This is our trailer up on Youtube.

  14. Our trailer became very popular on youtube a managed to gain over 1,000 views which we were really happy about. Here is a pie chart indicating the ratio of men to women who have watched our video on Yotube. Statistics show that the males were more interested in our film than men with blue being men and orange being female. We expected this as our film is a crime thriller and generally this would be more exciting for male eye than if it would be for a women.

  15. This is a bar chart showing the ages of people who’ve watched the film. As you can see the age which has the highest views are people from the ages between 45 and 54. As a group we expected this as film noir is a very niche filming style which people from that age would be most familiar with as they grew up when film noir was most popular. There was also a very high rating of the ages between 18 to 24, these statistics we didn’t expect at all as we thought film noir’s were mostly indicated for older people. As you can see most of the people who watched it from that age were male so this wasn’t as suprising as males were more into the action and crime than women.

  16. This is a comparison chart of the people form different countries who have seen our trailer. Of course a film was British made so we weren’t surprised that most of the people who watched it are from England. We were very surprised when people from other countries were watching it as well such as the U.S.A and people from the Netherlands. This was a very exciting thing to see and it showed us how connected the world is from the use of web 2.0.

  17. To conclude this the feedback we got proved to be most successful for people who is creating a film trailer or even a film. What I have learned is that the most important thing when creating a trailer is to always listen to and consider the audience as they will be the ones who would be paying to see the film. The feedback we got has helped us out and pushed us to perfect our trailer and without the critic from the audience we wouldn’t of made the changes we didn’t know needed changing. They also helped decide to change our genre from a classic noir to a more modern contemporary noir. What I have learned from the audiences feedback is that we did a great job in finishing our film trailer, people understood the characters and understood that the point of the trailer was to leave them with mystery and excitement to see the film if it was to come out. The audience helped reach to film trailer as high as we could of went.
