Since the United States was founded the leaders were committed to freedom and liberty. They believed that each citizen should have the same protections of their civil rights. Civil rights like the Right to Assemble, Freedom of Speech, Right to a Fair Trial were not always given to everyone. Judge for yourselves if the groups of people on the following slide enjoyed the rights and freedoms that the Founding Fathers fought for. From the earliest days of the nation until the 1960s the following people did not have equal protections of their civil rights.
