Social and Emotional Development Journal • Why do you think that it is vital for parents to spend Quality and Quantity time with their children? • Why do you think that parents are encouraged to speak to their children while in womb and as they grow from infancy up? • Do you feel that these two issues will make a difference in the quality of life the child will have at the start and then later in life? Social and EmotionalDevelopment Social Development is the process of learning to interact with others in the environment and learning to express oneself to others • This is a result of having adults that show tolerance towards others. (Parental Example) • Means being able to listen well and accept different points of views before acting

Social and Emotional Development Emotional Development is the process of learning to express one’s feeling and to establish one’s identity as an unique person • A child that has a had healthy emotional development grows to be self confident, handles stress appropriately, and shows empathy towards other

  7. Social and Emotional Development Social and Emotional Development are connected to each other in that a child’sfeeling about himself or herself and behavior towards others depends on each other.

This trust is the bass of good relationship with others. The two ways to build trust infants are: • To provide consistent environment • To provide their basic needs consistently

The world becomes a safe place for them Infants who aren’t as well loved and cared for feel helpless, confused, and not trusting… resulting in relationship problem later in life
