  1. Easy Christianity Sermon #5 in a series on the Biblical book of Acts

  2. Anointed Deacon

  3. Anointed Deacon • Acts 6:10 – “They could not stand up against his wisdom or the Spirit by whom he spoke.”

  4. Anointed Deacon • Acts 7:51-53 – ““51 “You stiff-necked people, with uncircumcised hearts and ears! You are just like your fathers: You always resist the Holy Spirit! 52 Was there ever a prophet your fathers did not persecute? They even killed those who predicted the coming of the Righteous One. And now you have betrayed and murdered him— 53 you who have received the law that was put into effect through angels but have not obeyed it.”

  5. First Christian Martyr was a Deacon

  6. Conviction of Sin • Acts 7:54, 55 – “54 When they heard this, they were furious and gnashed their teeth at him. 55 But Stephen, full of the Holy Spirit, looked up to heaven and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing at the right hand of God. 56 “Look,” he said, “I see heaven open and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God.” • Act 7:57, 58 – “57 At this they covered their ears and, yelling at the top of their voices, they all rushed at him, 58 dragged him out of the city and began to stone him.”

  7. Easy Christianity • Acts 7:59, 60 – “59 While they were stoning him, Stephen prayed, “Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.” 60 Then he fell on his knees and cried out, “Lord, do not hold this sin against them.” When he had said this, he fell asleep.

  8. Easy Christianity • Acts 8:1-3 – “On that day a great persecution broke out against the church at Jerusalem, and all except the apostles were scattered throughout Judea and Samaria. 2 Godly men buried Stephen and mourned deeply for him. 3 But Saul began to destroy the church. Going from house to house, he dragged off men and women and put them in prison.”

  9. Easy Christianity • Love Letter – • Song of Songs 8:6 • “6 Place me like a seal over your heart,    like a seal on your arm;for love is as strong as death,    its jealousy unyielding as the grave. It burns like blazing fire,    like a mighty flame…

  10. Easy Christianity • Love Letter – • Song of Songs 8:7 • 7 Many waters cannot quench love;    rivers cannot wash it away.If one were to give    all the wealth of his house for love,it would be utterly scorned.

  11. Easy Christianity • My Christianity might be too easy if… • I never have evaluate what you watch, listen to or search for. • I have never felt inclined to share what Jesus has done for you with a friend. • My religious experience consists of an hour a week at church. • I’ve never had to confront sin in the life of someone you love.

  12. Easy Christianity • My Christianity might be too easy if: • I never even come close to sinning. • The presets on my car radio are all Christian stations. • My greatest trial is when Andy’s is out of cheese substitute. • I’m focused on the earrings of the homeless lady. • It’s more important to me to be nice than honest.

  13. Easy Christianity • My Christianity might be love centered if: • I’m mourning… • I’m meek… • I hunger for things of God… • I’m merciful… • I’m pure in heart… • I’m a peacemaker… • I’m persecuted…

  14. Easy Christianity • Paul – “If only for this life we have hope in Christ, we are to be pitied more than all men” (1Corinthians 15:18). • Head knowledge is okay. • Do something…
