What is a doi number? • Stands for Digital Object Identifier. • “…is a unique alphanumeric string assigned by a registration agency … to identify content and provide a persistent link to its location on the internet” (APA, 2010, p. 189). • Usually located near the top of page one of an article and on the longer view of the database entry.

  16. More About the doi. • Don’t confuse the DOI with an ISSN number or an accession number. If you do not see the letters doi before a number, it is not a doi number. • If an article does not have a DOI, then use the URL for the periodical’s home page.
