  3. The Proctor Relationship • Tense, untrusting, talk about the weather, the food • John adds seasoning to the soup without Elizabeth knowing it • Add some flowers, “it’s winter in here yet” • “Let’s you and I go walk about” • “I mean to please you Elizabeth”

  4. The Fight • John was alone with Abigail-that’s how he found out the girls were faking • “You will not judge me more, Elizabeth. “ • “You forget nothing and forgive nothing! Learn charity woman. I have gone tiptoe in these last seven month…I have not moved from there to there without I think to please you, and still an everlasting funeral marches round your heart.” • “I have confessed” • E “I do not judge you. The magistrate sits in your heart and judges you.” J “Your justice would freeze beer.”

Mary Warren’s News • She is part of the jury • 39 women arrested • Good Osborn with hang • Sarah Good confessed and goes to jail • Wrote her name in the Devil’s book and bound herself to torment Christians till God’s thrown down. • She choked the girls and screamed • She is pregnant (60 yrs old?) • She can not say any commandments • Elizabeth is accused

  6. What should John do? • Elizabeth thinks Abigail accused her • “Go to Abigail” • E“A promise is surely made. And she may dote on it now…and thinks to kill me and take my place” • J“The promise that a stallion gives a mare I gave that girl” • “Blushing” • E“I will be your only wife, or no wife at all! She has an arrow in your yet John Proctor”

  7. Enter Reverend Hale • Accusations • John does not come to church • Last son not baptized • Forgets “adultery” in the commandments (IRONY) • Elizabeth “doubts the gospel” since the gospel speaks of witches

Madness and Mayhem • Martha Corey and Rebecca Nurse arrested • Elizabeth Proctor arrested • THE POPPET • Abigail stabbed in her belly • Proctor calls Hale Pontius Pilate • Proctor rips the warrant and yells at them to not have her chained. • Proctor is dragging Mary Warren to court • “It is a providence…we are only what we always were, but naked now…And God’s icy wind, will blow!”
