  1. Christianity NOT FOR EVERYONE (2) "But the cowardly, unbelieving, abominable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death" (Revelation 21:8) all verses NKJV unless otherwise noted

  2. 1. Being A Christian is not for “Cowards” • (Strong’s, 1169) first mentioned in list • timid, fearful • “But He said to them, ‘Why are you so fearful <1169>? How is it that you have no faith?’” (Mk. 4:40) • “Uphold me according to Your word, that I may live; and do not let me be ashamed of my hope” (Ps. 119:116)

  3. Cowardice Condemned • Mark 8:38, “Whosoever therefore shall be ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation; of him also shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he cometh in the glory of his Father with the holy angels” (KJV) • 2 Timothy 1:8, “Therefore do not be ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me His prisoner, but share with me in the sufferings for the gospel according to the power of God.”

  4. Ways we may be cowards… • Concerning the truth of God’s word: • Genesis 1-3 and the Creation • (See next slide for poll figures)

  5. Ways we may be cowards… According to a Newsweek poll done in march of 2007: Only 13% of Americans believe in naturalistic evolution (that is that God had no part in evolution) However, 48% of Americans believe that God created "humans pretty much in the present form at one time within the last 10,000 years or so" 30% of Americans took the middle ground responding that they believed "Humans developed over millions of years from less advanced forms of life, but God guided this process" 9% remained unsure.

  6. The Days of Genesis 1 • Outside Genesis 1, yom is used with a number 359 times, and each time it means an ordinary day.9 Why would Genesis 1 be the exception?10

  7. The Days of Genesis 1 • Outside Genesis 1, yom is used with the word “evening” or “morning”11 23 times. “Evening” and “morning” appear in association, but without yom, 38 times. All 61 times the text refers to an ordinary day. Why would Genesis 1 be the exception?12

  8. The Days of Genesis 1 • In Genesis 1:5, yom occurs in context with the word “night.” Outside of Genesis 1, “night” is used with yom 53 times, and each time it means an ordinary day. Why would Genesis 1 be the exception? Even the usage of the word “light” with yom in this passage determines the meaning as ordinary day.13

  9. The Days of Genesis 1 • Exodus 20.11 • For in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day. Therefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and hallowed it. • (Repeated in Exodus 31.17)

  10. The Days of Genesis 1 • If “days” of Genesis 1 are thousands or millions of years long, and God used those years to develop the species we have now… • Then there was death before sin… • This is in direct contradiction to the rest of Scripture… Especially Romans 5.12

  11. Ways we may be cowards… • Concerning the truth of God’s word: • Genesis 1-3 • Woman’s role Gen. 3.16 • The Flood • Condemnation of sin • Fornication - 1 Cor. 7.2 • Homosexuality - Lev. 20.13; 1 Cor. 6.9 • Judgment to come – Acts 24.25 • The exclusivity of the Kingdom (our subject)

  12. 2. Being a Christian is not for “Unbelievers” • “But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him” (Heb. 11:6)

  13. John 1:12 • “But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name.” • those who receive are those who believe • cannot receive without believing • only the one who “receives” can exercise his right to become a child of God • implies that not all believers have exercised their right to become children of God (Jn. 12:42, 43) • all believers exercise their right to become children of God WHEN they are baptized into Christ

  14. JOHN 1:12“But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name.” Galatians 3:26, 27“For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ.” John 1:12 & Galatians 3:26, 27 THE RIGHT EXERCISED

  15. JOHN 1:12“But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name.” Acts 8:12“But when they believed Philip as he preached the things concerning the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, both men and women were baptized.” John 1:12 & Acts 8:12 BELIEVE NAME BAPTIZED

  16. Jailer an A+ Believer • ASKED, "Sirs, what must I do to be saved?" (Acts 16:30) • ANSWERED, "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household" (Acts 16:31) • ACTED UPON, “immediately he and all his family were baptized” (Acts 16:33) • AUTHENTICATED, “he rejoiced, having believed in God with all his household” (Acts 16:34) CERTIFIED GOSPEL!

  17. There are some “believers” who will NOT be saved… Hebrews 10.39 But we are not of those who draw back to perdition, but of those who believe to the saving of the soul.

  18. 3. Being A Christian is not for the “Abominable” • abhorrent, foul, loathsome • “Meaning intensified by folk etymology derivation from L. ab homine ‘away from man,’ thus ‘beastly’” (Online Etymology Dictionary)

  19. Sin is “abominable” • it is to be put away from man • “He then would have had to suffer often since the foundation of the world; but now, once at the end of the ages, He has appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of Himself” (Heb. 9:26) • “In Him you were also circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, by putting off the body of the sins of the flesh, by the circumcision of Christ” (Col. 2:11)

  20. Proverbs 6:16-19 Abortion 16 These six things the LORD hates, Yes, seven are an abomination to Him: 17 A proud look, A lying tongue, Hands that shed innocent blood,

  21. Proverbs 6:16-19 16 These six things the LORD hates, Yes, seven are an abomination to Him: 17 A proud look, A lying tongue, Hands that shed innocent blood, 18 A heart that devises wicked plans, Feet that are swift in running to evil, 19 A false witness who speaks lies, And one who sows discord among brethren.

  22. 4. Being a Christian is not for “Murderers” = the unlawful taking of human life • cutting down a tree is not murder (2 Sam. 5:11) • hunting and fishing is not murder (Gen. 9:1-4) • PETA cannot tell the difference between a man or a mouse • PETA is NOT an animal welfare organization • PETA is NOT for Christianity MURDER

  23. MURDER 3 For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to evil. Do you want to be unafraid of the authority? Do what is good, and you will have praise from the same. 4 For he is God’s minister to you for good. But if you do evil, be afraid; for he does not bear the sword in vain; for he is God’s minister, an avenger to execute wrath on him who practices evil. Romans 13:3, 4 • is not where the government punishes evildoers by death • “You shall not murder” (Ex. 20:13) • BUT, “He who strikes a man so that he dies shall surely be put to death” (Ex. 21:12) • is the unlawful taking of human life

  24. 5. Being a Christian is not for the “Sexually Immoral” • There is a sexuality that is immoral • “Marriage is honorable among all, and the bed undefiled; but fornicators and adulterers God will judge” (Heb. 13:4) • “But outside are dogs and sorcerers and sexually immoral and murderers and idolaters, and whoever loves and practices a lie” (Rev. 22:15)

  25. 6. Being a Christian is not for “Sorcerers” • “one who prepares or uses magical remedies” (Thayer) • spell giving potions • our word pharmacy is derived from this word farmakeuv(pharmakeus)

  26. And The Like • “Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God” (Gal. 5:19-20) why not illegal drug use today?

  27. 7. Being a Christian is not for “Idolaters” • “and the like” of “idolatry” (Gal. 5:19-21) • covetousness (Col. 3:5) • anything that comes between us and God is an idol • material possessions • entertainment & hobbies • job & education • family & friends • reputation • etc.

  28. 8. Being a Christian is not for “Liars” • mentioned as abomination in Proverbs 6:17 • one, two punch • “I hate and abhor lying, But I love Your law” (Ps. 119:163) • “watch and pray” (Matt. 26:41) • “submit and resist” (Jas. 4:7) • “faith and works” (Jas. 2:26) • contrast: “But outside are dogs and sorcerers and sexually immoral and murderers and idolaters, and whoever loves and practices a lie” (Rev. 22:15)

  29. Loving and Practicing a Lie • “Who say to the seers, ‘Do not see,’ And to the prophets, ‘Do not prophesy to us right things; Speak to us smooth things, prophesy deceits’” (Is. 30:10) • loving and practicing faith alone/false doctrine • loving and practicing adulterous marriages/unions • loving and practicing instrumental music in worship/false worship

  30. Lying will only help you down • “The truthful lip shall be established forever, But a lying tongue is but for a moment” (Prov. 12:19)

  31. "But the cowardly, unbelieving, abominable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death" (Revelation 21:8) thus the NEED exists for those who practice these things to hear the gospel and repent

  32. 8 But we know that the law is good if one uses it lawfully, 9 knowing this: that the law is not made for a righteous person, but for the lawless and insubordinate, for the ungodly and for sinners, for the unholy and profane, for murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers, for manslayers, 10 for fornicators, for sodomites, for kidnappers, for liars, for perjurers, and if there is any other thing that is contrary to sound doctrine, 11 according to the glorious gospel of the blessed God which was committed to my trust. 1 TIMOTHY 1:8-11
