Introduction to the Microscope Parts Care Focusing

Care Care • Always carry with 2 hands • Only use lens paper for cleaning the objectives and ocular lens • Do not force knobs to move
Care • Always store covered • cord wrapped around cover • low power objective clicked in place • light turned off • Keep objects clear of desk and cords
Focusing • Place the Slide on the Microscope • Use Stage Clips to secure slide to stage • Click Nosepiece so that the low power objective (4x) setting is over the slide • Look into the Eyepiece • Turn the Coarse Focus knob until the image becomes clear and not fuzzy • Use the Fine focus knob to make the image even more clear and sharp
Focusing • To increase in magnification turn the nosepiece so that medium objective (10x) is over the slide • Turn the Coarse and Fine adjustments until image is clear and sharp
Focusing • Then move on to the High objective (40x) • Do NOTuse the Coarse Focusing Knob • Use the Fine Focus Knob to bring the specimen into better focus
Ocular or eyepiece 10x Low power 4x Medium 10x High 40x Total magnification= Ocular x Objective Low____ Medium_____ High______ Magnifying Power
Draw specimens EXACTLY as you see them in the circular “field of view” Neatness matters! Labeling Drawing Specimens
