TRD Status

This update provides information on the progress and status of various tasks related to the TRD project, including geometry, calibration, online systems, data acquisition, quality assurance, reconstruction, simulation, and other topics.

  4. TRD – Calibration/Online – DCS • Pretrigger and configuration file (Christoph, Frederick) 30/06/08 • Preprocessor implementation done • Reads file from FXS • XML parser in pre- processor for data conversion to OCDB • In SVN and runs success- fully in preprocessor tests

TRD – Calibration/Online – DCS • Check DCS data points 30/09/08 • DCS side: • File format defined: XML • Communication to DCS boards: Instructions via CMD channel, return XML file via ACK channel • Test setup existing • To be defined still: • Final datapoints for configuration and pretrigger files • Also: check of already existing data points • Seems to be ok now ...

TRD – Calibration/Online – DAQ • Two DAs on DAQ • Pedestals algorithm (run type: PEDESTAL) • Drift velocity (run types: PHYSICS or STANDALONE) • Details: see Raphaelles presentation last offline week • After some iterations the DAQ DAs are now finally operational as intended at P2 (Raphaelle) • Tested with real cosmics data

  8. TRD – Raw Data Format • Raw data format check and handling of data corruption (MinJung, Christoph) 31/07/08 • Adapt the raw data reading to eventual changes in the format. Handling and monitoring of raw data corruption • Final (?) update of AliTRDrawStreamTB last week • Update of raw data simulation (MinJung) 30/09/08 • AliTRDrawStreamV2 (sim.) and AliTRDrawStreamTB (test beam and cosmics run) • Adapt raw data simulation to latest changes  only one version • New manpower assigned (WooJin)

TRD – Quality Assurance • Reference distributions for QA (Sylwester) 29/08/08 • Define and introduce reference histograms for the QA procedures • Implementation started (AliTRDqaBuildReference) • Exemplary versions of histograms • Definition of full set of reference histograms ongoing • Should have some quick progress now

  10. TRD – Reconstruction • Planning of AliRecoParam (Alexandru) 31/07/08 • AliTRDrecoParam according to official scheme • Implementation existing, incl. OCDB interface • Final changes currently being discussed with Cvetan und being introduced by Alex.

TRD – Simulation • Consistent treatment of ZS in digitizer (Ken, Christoph) 30/09/08 • Currently ZS is applied during conversion digits  raw data • Had to apply additional threshold for digits file size  slight inconsistency with ZS scheme • 1st step: Modification of digits container (diff. treatment of “real” zeros and “masked” zeroes. Currently being tested. • New manpower (Hermes)

Backframe: TRD Services Geometry • Additional mother volumes for services (Christoph) 31/05/08 • Add additional mother volumes in the space frame to accomodate the services that do not fit into the existing TRD mother volume. • Adds additional ~9kg (Aliroot: 1586(+9)kg Reality: ~1650kg) • Possible further iteration • Once more detailed information from integration groups are available • Screws, cables, etc. • Overlaps in TRD geometry removed • Thanks to Andreas!

Reconstruction • Mis-match between pad numbering scheme in raw data and reconstruction • Troubles in matching cosmics tracks from TPC • Ordering needs to be swapped in AliTRDpadPlane • Not visible in simulated data • Currently under test, has to be checked for side effects, etc. • Should be fixed these days

Tracklets from L1 Trigger • Simulation of TRD L1 trigger • TRAP chip tracklet finder (Clemens) • Fast tracking in Global Tracking Unit (Jochen) • Evaluation of trigger efficiencies • Writing of tracklet data (MinJung, Jochen, Alexandru) • Definition of common base class AliTRDtrackletBase • To be used for tracklets from raw data, simulation and reconstruction • 1st versions existing • TRD.tracklets.root (not in default reconstruction)

Other Topics • Memory leaks • Fixed in simulation • Reconstruction under investigation (some already removed) • Simulation of Ar/CO2 • AliTRDSimParam::SetArgon() • Time response implemented • Tail cancelation parameter in AliTRDfeeParam • Material in geometry  adapted parameters in StepManagerFixed() (ionization potential, etc.)

  16. Conclusions • Currently 6 open tasks • 2 can be closed soon • 2 with new manpower • Hope to close raw data chapter soon • Final touches on DAs and FXS • Immedeate reconstruction of cosmics data • Very important information • Still some bugs turn up  pad mapping

HLT::TRD ToDo • Speeding up the code: • A lot of room for improvement • New monitoring scheme • TRD Worker <=> GUI concept used for TRD monitoring • Need in HLT for standard monitoring tool for all detectors • Generalize TRD concept to be adoptable by other detectors • Merge TRD+TPC track • Need in algorithm to quickly match and prolongate tracks

FEE Simulation + Trigger • New simulation of online tracklets (Clemens Haltebourg) • Implementation of real hardware algorithm (TRAP-chip) (AliTRDmcmSim, AliTRDtrapAlu) • To be added to raw data stream (as in real raw data) • Needed for L1 trigger efficiency studies • Next: online PID • Simulation of online global tracking unit (GTU) (Jochen Klein) • Algorithm as implemented in FPGAs • Code available, needs to be interfaced to tracklet simulation
