  1. TRD chamber production Status Status meeting 19.12.05 GSI

  2. More Glue issues? • Recent dark current problems at Bucharest: • uA dark currents at 1300-1500 V in 2 chambers • Disappeared after some time. • Worries: • Might happen again because we have no safety margin Christians tests show that we have a ~100x safety margin • Implications on chamber building workflow Psychological and storage problem • GSI will try to build a chamber as fast as possible to “verify”. • No changes in procedure

  3. Radiators on Airplanes • 18 Dubna chambers were shipped to GSI in October as agreed • Cracks of the Rohacell of the outer Radiator cover were noticed. • Theory: 800mbar ambient pressure on plane->200mbar overpressure • Problem can be easily prevented by introducing venting holes But: they have to be closed soon due to hygroscopy of the Rohacell 200mbar ~1000N/compartment

  4. Dubna chamber Strategy • Will open all chambers (Yuri will send 2 technicians ~end of Jan-Feb). • Reassemble OK chambers (Fibre mats, Rohacell laminate (possibly with involvement from Münster?). • Complete test after reassembly (shared between GSI, Frankfurt, Heidelberg). • Broken chambers: cut off pad plane panel and reuse.

  5. Future shipment strategy • If on plane: • Need for venting hole in every Rad. Compartment. • Has to be closed later due to hygroscopy of rohacell. • Truck: • Not necessarily safer concerning other stress? • To be discussed

  6. 1st Supermodule implications Need: 1xL3C0, 1xL4C0, 1xL5C0 chamber by April,1st 2006. • Scenario 1: • Available chambers can be used (after opening and closing) • Scenario 2: • Pad plane panel can be reused: rebuild other parts (Radiator, L-profiles, Front profiles), e.g. in Heidelberg. • Scenario 3: • Dubna delivers 3 chambers by car (climate controlled, non-stop ride). Decision in February.

  7. Production status 18 shipped chambers included Sum: 124 Milestone: 50% of 60% by End of 2005 (162 chambers)

  8. Material issues • New L-profiles arrived (polyester-glasfiber) • First profiles are glued • Looking very straight • Machining not possible currently due to SM mechanics production • Front profiles: • New raw material arrived. • Machining also suspended due to lack of workshop time. • L-profile shortage upcoming in Dubna, Heidelberg, Frankfurt.
