Monday 07/28/14 • In your warm-ups section reflect on and answer the following in complete sentences: • What was the most challenging aspect of last weeks diagnostic timed writing? • For future timed writings, what do you feel would benefit you most in preparation and/or during the timed writing itself? • In your own words, define/describe what “academic writing” means to you. • List requirements of academic writing.

  3. Academic Writing https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Gv0H-vPoDc 1. Grab a yellow highlighter and red pen. 2. Go through your timed writing and highlight/underline the aspects of your writing that do not fit the criteria of formal, academic writing.

  4. Academic writing 1. Once you have received a copy of the diagnostic timed writing rubric, review your score. 2. Using a red pen, underline and annotate the areas that contributed to your score. 3. In the margins, note what you would need to do to strengthen your writing in the given section.

  5. Timed Writing Reflection Using the pink portfolio reflection sheet, write a full paragraph (at least eight sentences). Follow all instructions and be thorough in your reflections/explanations/examples. Staple the pink reflection sheet to the top of your timed writing. What you do not finish in class is homework, due in class tomorrow.
