There was a power gap left by the defeated countries and decimated countries following World War II. What was the reason for the Cold War? The Soviet Union and the United States had differing philosophies on which governments and economies would operate in the countries in Europe following World War II. What philosophy did the United States have following World War II? The United State’s philosophy was to help rebuild the countries that were in ruins after World War II and set up democratic governments and market economic systems in the countries. What was the philosophy of the Soviet Union? The Soviet Union believed in setting up communist governments and command economic systems in the countries that were in ruins following World War II. What events signaled the end of the Cold War? The fall of the Berlin Wall and the reunification of Germany were two of the events that signaled the end of the Cold War. Did the Cold War begin in Europe and spread around the world with most countries choosing to side with the philosophy of democracy or communism? Yes. Most countries chose to side with either the United States or the Soviet Union. What was the Holocaust?
