  2. My Chinese name is Kou-Tai Liu. I graduated from the Air Force Academy in Taiwan with BS degree. After 20 years service in military, I retired from Taiwan Coast Guard in 2006 as lieutenant colonel. I immigrated right away to California, I moved to UT in 2007. I love to • Fishing • Reading • Traveling • Learning

  3. This year, • I will use all Chinese methodology to teach. • Everyone in my Chinese class should use only Mandarin to communicate. • I wish to have parents support and cooperation. That means the parents or volunteer comes over to my class should not use English as well. • Only the Chinese environment could help Children to learn more efficiently the second language. • That’s the best way to push children to think and use Mandarin.

  4. Learn Chinese. • Listening: by using children’s songs, ballads and reading story to reinforce their listening capability • Speaking: by using games or competition to help children to learn language without pressure. By conversation and phrase modules practice to raise children’s Mandarin • Reading: Using both Ping-yang and vocabulary to teach, to reinforce their reading capability. To create their self-reading capability • Writing: apart of the basic vocabularies in textbook, training children to use Chinese dictionary. Learning material evaluates step by step from the words to phrase to short sentence even to short article.

  5. Basic Schedule Students who are not in their seats by 8:50 are considered late to school. Library books are due each Monday. Students should wear P.E. appropriate shoes and clothing.

  6. From Monday to Thursday, everyday will have homework, including Chinese and Science. Once they finish their homework and return on next day. • Occasionally , homework may include longer-term projects (such as research , science projects, etc.) • Other resources are available online if you choose to use them . Check our class webpage regularly.

  7. In Chinese class, NO ENGLISH! • Follow all directions and use your • best listening skills. • Keep your hands, feet , objects , and unkind words to yourself. • RESPECT the rights and property of others. • NO EATING in classroom, unless the teacher gives • you permission to eat. • DO NOT LEAVE YOUR SEAT unless the teacher gives you permission to leave your seat.

  8. Consequences for not following the classroom rules! • Warning • Lose a sticker . • Lose 5 stickers ( or 5 minutes of recess). • Lose 10 stickers ( or 10 minutes of recess). • Lose 15 stickers ( or 15 minutes of recess). • Notify parents. • Go to the office.
