  1. WELCOME TO 4th GRADE! Ms. Cook and Mr. Shipley

  2. Homework Policy • Homework will go home in a packet on Monday. • Homework is due Friday. • Help and guidance from guardians is encouraged. • If turning in homework consistently becomes an issue, guardians will be asked to check homework and sign student’s agenda.

  3. Spelling • Individual Spelling lists • 20 word list in which the teacher chooses 10 words, and the student chooses 10 words. • Students’ words chosen may come from AR book on student reading level or basal. • Teacher’s words relate to current PBL or basal. • Spelling contract comprised of various activities students must complete to earn a total of 35 points each week.

  4. Spelling (continued) • Students must have 2 copies of list. • Tests will be given in pairs. • New Spelling lists will be made by students on Friday and approved by Teacher same day.

  5. Reading • Students will be required to fill out weekly reading logs at home and in class. • Students will be required to take Accelerated Reader (AR) tests each quarter. • The first STAR test will be given in early August. • Individual AR goals will be set by students after STAR results are assessed. • Weekly Reading tests.

  6. Math • Lessons taught in small group setting. • FAST MATH (Online Math Fact Practice) • Kahn Academy (Online tutorials) • Everyday Math Curriculum (Teaches various methods to solve problems, differentiates based on student abilities). • Reference books are available for Math.

  7. Behavior Agreements • PBiS • Students will follow a color system for rewards and consequences. It will be posted on the website. • Paws- whole class rewards • Husky Grams- individual rewards
