Competencies DOMAIN I—SCHOOL COMMUNITY LEADERSHIP Competency 001The principal knows how to shape campus culture by facilitating the development, articulation, implementation, and stewardship of a vision of learning that is shared and supported by the school community. Competency 002 The principal knows how to communicate and collaborate with all members of the school community, respond to diverse interests and needs, and mobilize resources to promote student success. DOMAIN III—Administrative Leadership Competency 008 The principal knows how to apply principles of leadership and management to the campus physical plant and support systems to ensure a safe and effective learning environment.

  3. WATCH D.O.G.S. • What is Watch D.O.G.S.?Watch D.O.G.S. (Dads Of Great Students) is a program that is designed to get fathers (and father figures) more involved in the lives of students at school.  Father figures commit to volunteering two days out of the school year and devoting those days to making a difference in the lives of their own child and other children at school.   • What is the purpose of Watch D.O.G.S.?The purpose of the program is to get positive male role models into our schools to interact with our students and to provide a sense of safety and security to our students and staff by having an extra male presence in our building.

Why do schools need this? • Positive male role models are not equally represented in our schools and with increasing needs for security improvements, WATCH D.O.G.S. fulfills both needs. • Studies show that actively involved male role models doubles the percentages of high school graduates. These relationships foster social, emotional and academic growth in the students. • The increased presents of males on the campus will increase the sense of security and hopefully will impede lawlessness.

Evaluations • After the Watch D.O.G.S. meetings and initial three months of volunteers activity, formative evaluations would consist of self-reflections and group reflections on the needs and results of the implementation. Improvements due to the reflections should yield observable benefits and learning opportunities to improve success and program growth and development. • Summative evaluations should be completed at least at the end of each school year through solicitation of all stakeholder’s thoughts, concerns, or recommendations either privately or through group discussions and open forum. Student’s personal and academic growth and safety would be assessed to see if the goals intended are showing up in the results.
