May 26, 2014 History • Originally called Decoration Day • Borne out of the Civil War to “decorate” soldiers graves • First official celebration was May 30, 1868 • National Holiday Act of 1971 ensured a 3 day weekend Federal holiday • Modern Day Observance: A day of remembrance for those who have died in service of the USA Let us take a moment of silence to pay tribute to the many brave men and women who have given their lives to defend of our great country.
