  2. Why do we need to read the play today? I think we need to read this play today because as old as it may be, like all great plays it has a lesson to be learned. The message to be learned in this play is that to much power cant steer a man astray , never let your authority go to your head or affect you mentality as a human being. This play has a great way of expressing this lesson.

  3. What really led to the downfall of Haemon? How does that relate to the current status of the U.S government today? The U.S has unimaginable power. Like Creon, the government is looked apon as a superpower, a leader. But sometimes a leader can do things others look down upon. • Creon, Haemons father, was “mad with power”. People trembled when looking upon him. • His fathers position led to the death of Antigone, his fiancé. • The realization of the banishment of Antigone led Haemon to go against his father and “end it all”.

  4. Example of how the U.S had gone “Mad with power” The bombing in Hiroshima and Nagasaki ended so many lives that is was unimaginable. A small bomb did so much damage that is destroyed a city. The U.S misused its power and destroyed two cities filled with innocent people. Yes it ended the war but there were still other options.

  5. Thesis: Global dominance is on every countries mind. In “Antigone” Creon was ruling with an iron fist. His authority is what made him stronger. In the world today countries are fighting to expand, to exert their authority.

  6. The fall of Creon Every person has the ability to think for themselves, be free. “The Creon Catastrophe” led people to think of Creon not as a leader but an enemy. Authority was key in this play because it lead Creon to unintentionally kill his Son, spouse, and soon to be daughter-in-law. Creon was the tragic heron of the play
