Monday March 8, 2013 • What is on the exam?: • Personal Pronoun chart • 8 parts of speech memorized • Identify parts of speech in a sentence • basic diagramming • Definitions of: sentence, grammar, predicate, subject Vocabulary Lessons 13-24 • A few Shakespeare & Romeo and Juliet questions • The Pearl • To Kill A Mockingbird • & key literary terms used during the MP/year • Watch the movie with critical eye for characterization. • Home Work: Write a characterization extended paragraph. Multi paragraphs if you like. Cited sources not necessary tonight. 

  4. Write a Characterization Paragraph • Choose One: due Tuesday March 9,2013 • Atticus, Calpurnia, Scout, Jem, Tom Robinson • Make a statement (thesis)about the character. Consider their ethics, morals, beliefs, their position in society and take a position as to what you have observed about their character. • Then give examples of their actions • Give examples of what others say about them • Not required tonight but if you do cite: Cite your sources with page numbers after quotes~ “…” (27).

  5. Tuesday March 9th • Go over exam times/ review sheet • Collect characterization paragraphs • Watch end of movie • If time start graphic organizers for Exam Essay • HW: STUDY: Reminder: TKAMB Test Thursday for 1st and 3rd hours Friday for 6th hour. • Buddy Books all bound? Can you hold it? 

Exam Review: • What is on the exam?: • Personal Pronoun chart • 8 parts of speech memorized • Identify parts of speech in a sentence • basic diagramming • Definitions of: sentence, grammar, predicate, subject Vocabulary Lessons 13-24 • A few Shakespeare & Romeo and Juliet questions • The Pearl • To Kill A Mockingbird • & key literary terms used during the MP/year • Essay Portion of Exam: Characterization essay for To Kill A Mockingbird is Due Monday April 15, will be assigned on Tuesday April 9. • One draft only you need to carefully edit and improve yourself.  • One day late-20points Two days -40 points & Zero after Wednesday (the first day of exams) I will not take papers on Thursday. • Literary terms : MLA, plot, exposition, humor, suspense, irony, symbolism, theme, climax, turning point, genre, nonfiction, tragedy, figurative language, narrative, first person, third person, omniscient, formal essay, mood, meter, stereotype, personification, comic relief , conflict, external conflict, rhyme, …

  7. Wednesday March 10 • Students pull old papers from files and use a rubric to self grade. Teacher directed walk through of how final paper will be graded. • Basic Grammar Parts of speech / diagram • Introduce last buddy lesson to students so we go in prepared. 

  8. Rubric Directions: Final Exam ESSAY • Formal Characterization Essay DB Spaced Font Size12 • 3rd person • Present Tense • No contractions & Times New Roman • “words.” (27). MLA • Correct Title/Heading Final Exam Essay due MONDAY!! • Thesis & restated thesis ~ highlighted • Cited sources 6 Quotes (27).highlight MLA or use color • Opening paragraph: needs title, author, grabber, thesis, no quotes here, tell me dynamic or static, 1-3 adjectives to describe character • Body paragraphs: Prove your point!!! Elaborate!! Give examples explain why you think so • Conclusion: Restated thesis first sentence, wrap it up!! No new information! • Other important things to remember: Unity, transitions that flow one idea to the next!!!

  10. Friday April 12th NO SCHOOL FLU • 6th hour has TKAMB Test • EXAM Part I: Writing workshop on Exam Essay: ask me questions/conference write quietly. • EXAM Part II: MOVED TO EXAM DAY: • Personal Pronoun Chart Test & Parts of Speech listed and defined on Monday
