  3. Newspapers of Connecticut • Civil War era newspapers • Will add NDNP content • Libraries in CT may add their digitized newspapers • All will go into the Connecticut Digital Archive being developed by UConn for long-term preservation of the newspapers and other digital objects.

  4. National Digital Newspaper Program (NDNP) • Partnership between the National Endowment for the Humanities, the Library of Congress, and the states • Searchable database of U.S. historic newspapers • Began in 2005

  6. Grant Process • New guidelines are out • January 15, 2015 deadline to apply • 2-year grant with subsequent grants possible • 100,000 pages • 1836-1922 • Foreign language newspapers included

  7. Chronicling America / Library of CongressSearch newspapers digitized by the NDNP • Number of newspapers 1,474 • Number of pages 8,148,101 • Freely accessible and searchable • Newspaper essays • Lesson plans and topics
